Ministry of Information announced on May 25 that a total of 48 canvas bags that carry textbooks for government schools in Myeik District were incinerated.
Two 12-wheeler trucks carrying the textbooks to be distributed to the schools from Myeik District were stopped by an armed group on Dawei-Myeik Union Highway located in north-east 2,000 meters away from Thayatchaung Township approximately at 6 pm on May 24. A total of 48 canvas bags out of 1,597 bags were taken out and destroyed on the road.
The incident was committed by the PDF as described in the MOI’s announcement. Authorities continue investigating the incidents as per the security procedures to take legal action against the criminals who damaged the public properties.
Schools will be opened on June 1, 2022, for the Academic Year 2022-23. School admissions have been accepted since May 26.
