PNLO demands having specific state constitutions, right to new states in three-day talk

Vice-chairman of Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO) Khun Tun Tin proposed to draft and enact respective constitution for each state (ethnic territories) with an aggregate of fundamental principles, and to have the right to explore to emerge the new states (states/regions), according to statement by PNLO.

The PNLO discussed with State Administration Council for peace for three days in Naypyidaw from June 16 to 18.

Khun Tun Tin submitted four political objectives that Pa-O ethnics are anticipating in the future. PNLO’s four political objectives are: to build the Union System based on democracy and federalism; to practice multi-party democratic system; to draft, enact and enforce the specific constitutions in the states (ethnic territories); and to have the right to appear new states (states/regions).

“We (Pa-O ethnics) are pleased to stay together with other ethnics through thick and thin in this country. And we wish to be involved in the designated positions for building the Union based on democracy and federalism. We hereby propose that there should be the right to develop new states in the aforementioned Union system,” Khun Tun Tin said.

Representatives from the SAC explained and clarified about the points that were agreed in the Parts I, II, III of the Union Accord and the points involved in Schedule 2 from the Part III of the Union Accord which still remain to be discussed, during the meeting held on June 18.

Both parties signed agreements on June 18.

Transparent negotiations have to be conducted by all stakeholders during the peace talk, said Senior General Min Aung Hlaing expressing that the government will consider thoroughly to fulfill the demands claimed by the EAOs and the issues that should be really executed for each region and the country.
