A headmaster and a school teacher from Thinbawhla Village, Maungdaw, Rakhine State have been missing since June 16 with no clue for four days. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
However, a Muslim armed insurgent group named ARSA standing ‘Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army’ reportedly kidnapped the two missing teachers near the Bangladesh border, according to Major General Twan Mrat Naing, Chief of Staff of the Arakan Army/United League of Arakan.
Twan Mrat Naing tweets today at around 5 pm, said, “2teachers being kidnapped by ARSA near BD border is a grave disservice not just to the fellow Muslims in BD refugee camps craving to be repatriated but it could hamstring our judicious efforts to ameliorate trust & social cohesion among different communities inside Arakan.”
The headmaster Bo Win and primary teacher Ohnmar Kyaw from Thinbawhla Basic Primary School, Maungdaw were heading to Maungdaw Township's education office at an estimated 1 pm on June 16, locals say.
The only clue found by the rescue teams was the motorbike that they took when going to Maungdaw Township's education office. The bike was found on the roadside of Taungpyo-Kyainchaung Road.
The two missing have not been found yet despite intensive investigations conducted by Tatmadaw’s regional troops and locals together.
Authorities have not yet released any announcement concerning missing two educational staff.
