Mekong-Lancang Cooperation: emblem of unity spirit amid Mekong nations, says SAC’s Info Team leader

Myanmar is holding the 7th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Ministers’ Meeting in Bagan City tomorrow (July 2), regarding it the Information Team leader of the State Administration Council Major General Zaw Min Tun remarks as ‘unity spirit among Mekong nations’.

He told this remark during the 17th press conference of the SAC held in Naypyidaw today.

“Lancang-Mekong Cooperation has been started in 2016 in which one of the Mekong nations takes alternative chair together with China. This year, Myanmar takes alternative chairmanship together with China. Therefore, we will host the ministers’ meeting. Foreign ministers from China and other countries will attend. In other words, this means recognizing the sovereignty and actuality of the current Myanmar government. What is more, this is the emblem of the unity spirit among all Mekong nations standing together in all aspects,” Major General Zaw Min Tun said.

Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) is a platform of regional cooperation established by China and five Mekong nations together.

Regional development projects have been agreed as the outcomes of the LMC since its mechanism started in March 2016.

Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun said, “Noticeable results from this Lancang-Mekong Cooperation produce pragmatic development projects. This development has been speedily improving since its commencement in March 2016. From which, equality, goodwill mutual assistance, and friendly relations have been adopted as ‘Lancang-Mekong culture’.”

Treaties and MoUs agreed between regional countries will be signed among nations during the ministers’ meeting of the LMC, said Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun adding that the LMC will bring loads of benefits to the region.
