DMH warns of heavy rain over next week, cautions landslide, floods across country

Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) had notified floods and landslides alert after heavy rainfall across the country in Myanmar.

The DMH forecasted reach of monsoon wind in Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal with intensify from July 10 to 14, causing heavy rain in Bago, Yangon, Ayeyarwady, Tanintharyi, Rakhine, Kayin and Mon associated with strong wind.

The department said thunderstorms and large-scale waves could hit alongside of Myanmar coastal lines as effect of strong monsoon in the Andaman Sea and the BOB, together with gale of 35 to 40 miles per hour on the land. Natural disasters like heavy rainfall, gale, flash floods and landslide are forecasted to be associated, according to the DMH.

The department cautioned residents living near highlands risks to landslides; and residents living near streams are prone to floods.

Heavy rainfall with flood occurred in Nanmon town from Indawgyi area of Kachin State on July 8, according to residents.
