Myanmar discovered new Covid-19 cases of its sub-variants known as BA.4 and 5 as imported cases, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Health.

The ministry carried out the ‘Covid-19 sub-variant Surveillance Screen Process’ by inspecting at airports and border checkpoints the travelers who came into Myanmar with Commercial Flight or Relief Flight.

The Department of Medical Research conducted 16 lab specimens as suspected sub-variant cases on June 30, 2022. Authorities confirmed one BA.4 sub-variant case and five BA.5 sub-variant cases.

“We all should return wearing masks. That’s for sure. People should avoid the crowded area, wash the hands, and use the spirit to kill germs. It is still early to predict its mortality rate as these types of sub-variant were found recently. All should beware of Covid-19,” Dr. William Aye posted on his Facebook page.

The sub-variants aren’t serious with low mortality in fully vaccinated persons.

South Africa, Denmark, Scotland, England, Portugal, Germany, New York, and California detected BA.4 and BA.5, according to reports.

The Ministry of Health confirmed 15 new cases on July 11, 2022 after lab-tested on 5719 specimens.
