NP News - July 26
“Nothing is irreparable in politics,” said Major General Zaw Min Tun, the spokesperson of the State Administration Council responding to a journalist’s question about whether Aung San Suu Kyi will be allowed to meet with the ASEAN envoy as quoted in the local news referring the Phnom Penh Post. However, he made no accurate feedback on the question.
He made this discourse during the 18th press conference of the State Administration Council held today (July 26) in Naypyidaw.
The journalist raised a question, “We have learned that the local news media widely published the potentiality of allowing Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the ASEAN envoy Prak Sokhonn. May I know the feedback of the Information Team.”
“First, I would like to say ‘Nothing is irreparable in politics’. We do not have a specific remark on what the ASEAN envoy said. Second, I repeat ‘Nothing is irreparable in politics’”, Major General Zaw Min Tun said.
Meanwhile, the Union Election Commission expressed that the negative statements that are published through social media under the name of ‘National League for Democracy’ won’t be accounted for consideration while moving toward. In fact, the NLD Facebook released a statement saying that the party will be boycotting the upcoming election that will be convened by the military council, and no trust in it.
The UEC spokesperson Khin Maung Win said, “In recent days on social media, we saw the press statements released by the NLD central working committee. Those statements are released online. The UEC couldn’t confirm the accuracy and credibility of those statements.”
The NLD party’s legal status will be determined only after the UEC examines and audits the party’s details. Otherwise, it will be unfair if legal action or determination is made unless the proper examination is made on the party, Khin Maung Win added.
He said, “The NLD still remains to be audited by the UEC. Some of its CEC members are detained and some are exiles. We cannot contact them. We are in the process to make an examination on the NLD party. Therefore, it will be unfair if the UEC takes action against the party based on those incredible statements one-sidedly without scrutinizing the credibility and accuracy of those statements. The UEC will take proper action lawfully only after examining the NLD as per legal provisions.”
Also, Major General Zaw Min Tun said, during the press conference that three fourth of the former NLD representatives are still in domestic peacefully.
