Myanmar thirsts for peace in her Diamond Independency as key to moving forward

Amid clashes, turmoil, and restlessness of the country’s current condition, the Myanmar government endeavors to restore peace, get tranquility and eliminate armed conflicts as the forerunners of its forward plans including to convene the election.
The caretaker government is undertaking this approach, especially in the time of the country’s Diamond Jubilee Independence Day that will be fallen on January 4, 2023.
Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing delivered a speech to the public this morning (August 1).
The Army Chief stressed, “To hold the free and fair election, the nation must be peaceful and stable,” saying, “The coming election must be held in all parts of the nation freely and fairly. To ensure there is no unfairness, threats or coercion in the coming election, armed conflicts must cease.”
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing made the first invitation for peace to the leaders of ethnic armed groups on April 22, 2022. Ten EAOs responded to attend the peace. Again, the peace invitation was extended up to June 14 for the EAOs that refused to attend or did not respond of confirming to attend the talk.
Currently, the caretaker government-led peace delegation team is arranging for the second time dialogue with the peace-attended EAOs in the first invitation.
He said, during the speech, “We were able to talk frankly and cordially on exercising multiparty democracy in line with people’s wishes, building the Union based on democracy and federalism, and on actual needs and appropriate issues for the regions and the State.”
According to the information released, stakeholders that were involved in the discussion on peace discussed the Union Accord Part I, II, and III, and Table 2 of Part III and signed agreements.
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing highlighted the peace issue in his whole speech in different parts since he repeated that the prosperity of the nation means that peace must be achieved, jobs must be generated, and the country set on a democratic path.
With abundant natural resources in the country, he continued the speech related to ‘the prosperity of the nation and food security as two national visions’ that “The quicker we can achieve peace, the quicker we will achieve stability as well as development and growth.”
