Authorities extend night curfew in Kawkareik following intense clashes

Curfew time, under Section 144, was extended to 6-4 (6pm to 4am) instead of previously stated 10-4 (10pm to 4am) in Kawkareik of Kayin State after sporadic fire exchanging between Tatmadaw and the insurgent troops of KNLA.

The newly stated curfew time will be effective from August 30, confirmed by the Information Team of the State Administration Council.

Security forces of polices and Tatmadawmen that were taking their security duties in the city area of Kawkareik were attacked on August 15 by the KNLA troops with varieties of weaponries including heavy military ranged weapons.

At least six security forces died in the incident. At worst, civil servants were also arrested by the KNLA in the incident.

The Section 144 with extended curfew time – 4 to 6 – is also effective for surrounding cities including Myawaddy, Kyaitmayaw, Kyar Inn Saitgyi, Hpa-An and Hlaingbwe.

Kawkareik General Administration Office declared that failure to obey this order will be taken serious types of legal actions.
