Myanmar possibly expands weapon purchase from Russia

Have built a robust cooperation in defense affairs with Russia since decades ago, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar is projected to expand its procurement of military equipment from Russia in the upcoming period.
“Russian weapons and equipment are in the first place in terms of quality and fully cover our needs. They help a lot in expanding the defense capability of our country. In the future expanding the list of military equipment and other projects are possible," as Senior General Min Aung Hlaing was quoted by the Russian media.
Chairman of the State Administration Council and Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services of Myanmar Senior General Min Aung Hlaing reportedly said this message on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum.
On the other hand, the two nations’ trading volume increased up to 140 percent in the first half of 2022 in multi-sectors. The two countries have been boosting bilateral trade in many categories including export/import, agriculture, atomic and fuel sectors not only military and defense cooperation.
"Our relations are developing positively. The volume of trade and economic ties is still modest in absolute terms, but the trend is very good: a 140 percent increase in the first half of this year," Russian President Vladimir Putin was quoted by the Russian media saying at the meeting with Myanmar Army Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing on the sidelines of the EEF.
The 7th Eastern Economic Forum is being held in Vladivostok, Russia from September 5-8.
Myanmar and Russia lately prioritize to stabilize the regional tranquility by strengthening multipolar world order.
