Union Election Commission (UEC) is reportedly designating areas for polling stations and preparing necessary poll equipment for the polling stations in Naypyidaw.

A coordinating meeting on designating areas to place polling stations and voter list scrutinizing within Naypyidaw Union Territory was held yesterday (September 15) at the office of the UEC.

Upon accomplishing the provisions of the state of emergency, free and fair multiparty democratic elections will be held in line with the 2008 Constitution, the UEC chairman Thein Soe said.

Having independent voting process for the voters is one of the priorities in the preparation process that the UEC is carrying out.

Verification process of basic voter lists with the ground population has been carrying out since February 2022; at present, the processes are almost finished, the UEC said.

Relevant administration bodies have to assist for arranging placement of the polling stations in faraway and difficult transportation regions, Thein Soe said.

The upcoming 2023 election will be practiced in Proportional Representation system.

The UEC said knowledge-sharing programs will be conducted for the public with regard to the PR system.
