Myanmar enters SCO as dialogue partner

A geopolitically strategic Southeast Asian country, as well as a member of ASEAN, Myanmar has entered Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as a dialogue partner today- last day of the SCO Summit held in Uzbekistan’s Samarkand.
Uzbek president announced the start of procedures for granting Belarus SCO membership. He also said that Bahrain, Maldives, Kuwait, UAE, and Myanmar to receive SCO dialogue partner status on Friday, a report says.
“The SCO partnership will be expanding,” he said.
International media reports that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif welcomed dialogue partners Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain, Maldives, UAE, and Myanmar to the SCO.
The Eurasian political, economic, and security organization’s member states are India, China, Russia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Sri Lanka, Turkey, Cambodia, Azerbaijan, Nepal and Armenia are the current dialogue partners.
Five new dialogue partners involve Bahrain, Maldives, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Myanmar.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2022 is currently held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan from September 15-16.
