Myanmar Union Election Committee (UEC) responded on the remark made by the United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar Thomas Andrews as a total negligence on the effort of Myanmar to hold the general election.

The special rapporteur said that the general election organized by the Myanmar Military would be a lie.

According to the Five-Point Road Map of the State Administration Council (SAC), free and fair multiparty democratic elections will be held upon accomplishing the provisions of the state of emergency.

The UEC is preparing voter registrations, and other pre-election tasks including suitable legal frameworks that will be in line with new electoral voting system, the commission said.

UEC responded that “The statement by the (UN) Special Rapporteur is not a constructive remark and he is neglecting all the efforts and attempts done by UEC to hold free and fair general election.”

The UEC said it will continue carrying out the related tasks to be accomplished for a successful holding of the general election abiding by the acting laws.

Authorities declared that the upcoming general election will be held in Proportional Representation (PR) system.
