Authorities form anti-terrorist financing committee

The State Administration Council established a committee for monitoring mobile money transactions that is led by the Vice-Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar to prevent the financing of terror networks.
The committee was formed at the end of August 2022.
The committee is composed of eleven members; a representative from the Office of Chief of Military Security Affairs will be serving as a joint secretary of the committee.
The SAC assigns the committee to monitor the transactions having risks for the State sovereignty and tranquility; fraud, money laundering, and related to terrorist financing which includes donating and supporting financial aid to terrorist organizations and networks so that the public can use monetary services with safe conditions.
The committee is also responsible to manage and supervise the mobile money transaction services in line with the law systematically between departmental bodies and ministries.
The committee will scrutinize the personal information of the mobile payment users by matching it with the information that is registered at the Department of Transport and Telecommunication and the Ministry of Immigration and Population.
