Ex-parliament speaker’s party plans to abolish

The Union Betterment Party (UBP) founded by a former parliament speaker Thura Shwe Mann in 2019 now announced its plan to exit from the political platform.

The chairman of the UBP released a statement of party dissolving announcement today (October 12) that the party will be dissolved as it stands a hardship in health, social and others in aspect of political party life.

The party submitted its abolishment proposal to the Union Election Commission for approval.

He served the military with the rank ‘General’ as highest in his serviceman life. He was the third most top listed Generals following retired Senior General Than Shwe and retired Vice-Senior General Maung Aye.

The statement expresses, “Persons who led forming the party are now getting old; defect in health; and having hardships in social and others. We do not wish to continue the political party activity.”

The UBP party even went through the political party inspection process by the Union Election Commission in 2021 August.

Legally standing political parties in Myanmar will be facing many threats to run in the upcoming 2023 Election that will be held as promised by the State Administration Council as the opposition group NUG publicly announced that they ‘will definitely try not to convene the election in 2023’.

On the other side, the NUG personnel frequently make public life-intimidations to the persons who will be running in the election.
