Nuclear power plant in Myanmar expected to develop first step by end of 2022

The project of nuclear power plant in Myanmar that was agreed by Russia-Myanmar is expected to develop first tangible or intangible result by the end of this year.

Two ministers of the State Administration Council: Thaung Han, the Minister of the Ministry of Electric Power and Myo Myint Oo, the Minister of the Ministry of Energy attended the Russian Energy Week Forum that was held on October 12-14, reports say.

The Minister Thaung Han met with officials from Rosatom Company during the forum period.

The nuclear power plant project was agreed by the two countries during the previous visit of Senior General Min Aung Hlaing to Russia and signed the MoU. Also, the road map has been approved by the relevant authorities.

The Minister Thaung Han discussed details when meeting with the Russian officials so as to execute the implementation process of electricity generation from the atomic energy as soon as possible.

Major General Zaw Min Tun said that the nuclear technology information center will be established in Yangon by the Division of Atomic Energy of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

“We intend to use the atomic energy in a peaceful mean. But we won’t do anything without informing the public. We will educate the public on understanding and cooperation in the process of implementing the nuclear energy,” he said.

The small scale nuclear power plant that had been agreed by Myanmar and Russia will be developed within a few years, the SAC had declared.
