Although the #hydropower_plant_projects have been allowed to construct in #Myanmar, the progress has been primarily halted due to the destructive acts committed by the non-State armed forces.

Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Senior General #Min_Aung_Hlaing addressed this during the meeting with investors and entrepreneurs from #Myeik District, Tanintharyi Region on 5th November.

“Electricity is important. We can use solar energy effectively to produce electricity in Myeik,” he said.

Senior General added, “The State has been making a steadfast effort to generate electricity as necessary for the production sector. Permission has been already granted to operate hydropower plants. However, disruptions and disturbances done by the armed groups delay and halt the progress.”

Such disruptions committed by the #terrorists ruin public sectors indeed. There are already over 40 towers that have been sabotaged by terrorists in the current Myanmar conflict. Civil servants at the electricity departments were arrested and abducted by the terrorists. Some were killed.

A total of six electricity projects including the Shweli 3 Hydropower plant are projected to finish in the next three years; and are expected to produce more than 1300 MW of electricity.

The SAC invited experts from both domestic and foreign to conduct feasibility studies to formulate four hydropower plants in the delta areas in Tanintharyi Region.
