Myanmar releases nearly 6000 prisoners including ex-ministers, foreign legats

Nearly 6000 prisoners of both genders were released in today State pardon including the former ministers #Kyaw_Tint_Swe, #Dr_Lei_Lei_Maw, and foreign legats #Sean_Turnell and British #Vicky_Bowman and her husband Artist #Htein_Lin, and Japanese national #Toru_Kubota.
The State Administration Council granted the #amnesty today on 102th National Day falling on 17 November.
A total of 5098 males and 676 females, altogether 5774 prisoners, across the country were released.
Former economic adviser of the former State Counselor, Australian Sean Turnell; former Britain Ambassador-cum-British legat Vicky Bowman, Japanese national Toru Kubota and US citizen Kyaw Htay Oo were released and will be deported, Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun confirmed.
Artist Htein Lin (husband of Vicky Bowman), former minister of the State Counselor Office Kyaw Tin Swe, former chief minister Dr. Lei Lei Maw and comedian Sin Ma were also released.
The granted pardon is made under Section 401 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
