The Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said the General Election will be held in any situation, adding that the government will make effort to protect the public from any potential threats to the election processes.

He underlined it during the meeting of the State Administration Council that was held on January 23 in Naypyidaw.

He also said that holding the general election on a nationwide scale needs to be prioritized since the Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) have already agreed on consolidating the multiparty democratic system and building the nation based on democracy and federal values in principle.

People’s participation in the general election is important. Therefore, he said that it is critical to conduct measures for people to be able to cast their votes free from threats and coercions.

However, on the other hand, the opposition entity NUG already declared to ruin the upcoming election at all costs. At present, election commission offices and immigration offices in states and regions across the country have been destroyed, attacked, torched and exploded by terrorists.

The Union Election Commission and Immigration department are jointly collecting and inspecting the on-ground population statistics starting from January 9; and at least ten ward/village administrators have been killed by PDFs.
