The government is planning to undergo enumeration and naming of the islands that exist in Tanintharyi Region in order to preserve and safeguard the sea and coastal areas.

On 26th January, the first coordination meeting of Enumerating and Coining Committee was held.

“Along the #Tanintharyi_Coastal_Region, there exist islands. Out of them, some of the islands have names but some don’t. To coin the names of these islands, actions are being undertaken for systematic enumeration and naming of these islands according to international standards. The Committee has laid down seven duties and they are carrying out these duties” the Committee Chairman of Security and Border Affairs Colonel Thein Lin said at the meeting.

He also said that the number of islands existing along the coastal regions and their locations need to be systematically recorded and it is important for safeguarding the sea areas and coastal regions for the sake of the country’s territory and sovereignty. If there were any disputes, these systematic records will become a concrete factor for our country.

Within Tanintharyi Region, there are altogether 800 islands and the archipelago is one of the tourist attractions.

Therefore, many businessmen are competing for doing business on these islands and systematic management is urgently needed there.
