NMSP urges armed groups to abide by ROE and not to harm residential areas

New Mon State Party (#NMSP) insisted all the armed forces to stick to the Rules of Engagement and to avoid the civilian communities and villages in conducting military operations.

It was expressed in their statement issued on 29 January by the NMSP’s Thaton District executive members concerning with the arson that broke out in the villages where the majority of Mon ethnic people are living in.

According to the NMSP’s statement, the crossfire between Myanmar Military and Lion Battalion Commando led by Commander Saw L Say Wah that happened on January 24 approached so close to civilian villages where the majority of people are from Mon ethnic groups.

Residential houses were burned down during these military operations, the NMSP stated.

It is stated that a total of 21 residential houses in Kannei Village and 18 houses in Nyaung Yeik Village were destroyed in the fire torched by the military column led by Commander Saw L Say Wah.

What is more, according to the statement of the NMSP, the shell explosion launched by the military security forces, three houses in Kannei village, one house in Nyaung Yeik Village, and seven houses in Tha Yet Taw village were also damaged. Two villagers were injured in the incident though the injuries were minor.

Therefore, the NMSP urged all armed forces to avoid villages and civilian housing; and to abide by the ROE.

In the statement, the NMSP also insisted the local people to make necessary preparations for their safety and security.

NMSP is one of the ethnic armed organizations that attended the State Peace Talk invited by the Head of the State Administration Council Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
