The Navy brings back Myanmar citizens who are suffering in Thailand

#Myanmar_Navy conducted an operation of returning home of the Myanmar migrants third time after the 2021 Constituted Coup.

A total of 679 #Myanmar_migrants who are suffering in Thailand’s detention camp returned to the motherland assisted by the Myanmar Navy on February 2, according to the announcement released by the State Administration Council.

The operation was conducted on a day after the announcement of another six months extension of a State of Emergency by the Military.

The operation of returning the Myanmar nationals was led by Commodore Thein Htoo from Tanintharyi Naval Base Headquarters. The operation team of the Myanmar Navy accepted the suffering Myanmar migrants in Thailand’s camps at the Custom Bridge in Ranong on the morning of February 2.

The team and the Myanmar nationals safely arrived back in Kawthoung at 12:50 pm on February 2.

Tanintharyi Region Chief Minister Myat Ko, Tanintharyi Region Social Welfare Minister Yin Htwe, and departmental staff welcomed their return at Shwe Watwun Jetty.

Medical checkups were carried out by Military medical officers.

Among 679 returned migrants, 397 are the ones from Tanintharyi Region; 171 others are from Yangon and other cities and towns; and the remaining 111 are from Rakhine State.

397 citizens who will be returning to Yangon and other cities and towns are planned to be escorted by the Navy frigate UMS Kyan Sittha to Yangon; and 111 Myanmar citizens who will be returning to Rakhine State are planned to be escorted by the UMS Anawrahta to Sittwe and Kyaukphyu townships.

The Myanmar Navy saved and brought back 1,086 Myanmar migrants from Malaysia; and 70 Myanmar nationals from India’s Port Blair in February 2021, after the Constituted Coup happened on February 1, 2021.
