Khit/ Myo Gyi (NP News) - Feb 15

The Arakan Front Party (#AFP) led by prominent politician of Rakhine ethnic #Dr_Aye_Maung will submit the application for the party registration soon at the regional level, according to the reports.

At present, the Union Election Commission (UEC) announced that political parties are allowed to apply for the party registration.

The AFP contested the previous elections as nationwide. However, now, it decided to register as the Rakhine based party according to the #Political_Parties_Registration_Law that was recently enacted by the State Administration Council (SAC).

“We don’t’ expect to contest in the mainland’s constituencies. We are not sure we will be voted in those mainland constituencies. Our party is intended to represent Rakhine State mainly. We expected to run the election in Yangon and Ayeyarwady as the second priority. We just sought to get the position for Minister of Ethnic Affairs. Actually, our party is a Rakhine State based party. We will apply, may be next week,” the chairman of Arakan Front party, Dr. Aye Maung told NP News.

“Election is the essential gate on the road to democracy,” Dr. Aye Maung remarked continuing that the AFP will be contesting the election if a fresh election is convened by the SAC.

There has been four parties that have submitted the applications for the parties registrations as of second week of February.
