UEC approves six more parties for registrations

Four more ethnic political parties have been allowed to register as political party and two others were approved for the establishment of the political parties on 2nd May by the Union Election Commission (UEC).

As per the UEC announcement from state owned newspaper on 3rd May, four political parties being approved by the Union Election Commission are Arakan Front Party (AFP), Tai-Leng Nationalities Development Party (TNDP), Shan-Ni Solidarity Party (SSP) and Rakhine State National Unity Party. These political parties have been allowed to register under Section 9 of the Political Parties Registration Law.

13 political parties have applied for the right to newly establishment of the parties under the new Political Parties Registration Law.

Amongst, the UEC said that Shan and Ethnic Democratic Party (White Tiger Party) and Democratic Party were found to comply with the political parties’ registration law and bylaws enacted by the State Administration Councial (SAC). Therefore, these two political parties are granted right to establish parties on 2nd May.

The UEC also announced that these parties must apply for registration as a political party under Rule 7 of the Registration of Political Parties within 30 days from the date of approval.

As of today, five political parties have been allowed to be newly established and the rest political parties are still under scrutiny processes.
