SAC informs Muse-Mandalay railway project reviewed to start

The Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC), Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, told that construction of the Muse-Mandalay railway project is being reviewed in order to improve land transportation system in addition to road transportations for the border trade sector.

He addressed it at the committee meeting of the Commerce that was held at the office of the SAC on August 25.

At present, road transportation is mainly used for the border trade route. Therefore, implementation on railway projects are needed to improve the transportation system, the Chairman said.

The Senior General suggested that not only Muse-Mandalay railway lane, but also Chinshwehaw-Lashio railway lane should also be formulated.

In addition, the project of railway route between Kyaukphyu Deep Sea Port and Mandalay is being conducted and therefore, the commodity flow is expected to be better when the project is finished.

What is more, Senior General also highlighted to resume the trilateral highway between India, Myanmar and Thailand.

In October 2018, Myanmar Railway Department of the Ministry of Transport signed MoU with China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group Co.Limited (CREEC) and China Railway Group Limited to conduct feasibility study for the Muse-Mandalay Railway Project.

The project includes the construction of 124 bridges; 60 tunnels; electric railway that has a length of 409.96 kilometers; 11 power substations and the related electric power line.
