Two giant water storage tanks will be constructed with K4 billion from the government budget at the Maday Island in order to fulfill the water supply for the Kyaukphyu Deep Sea Port Project, according to the businessmen in Kyaukphyu Township.

“Plans are underway to construct water reservoirs with a cost of 4 bln from the government funds. Water is essentially required for the special economic zone. Therefore, the government provided funds for the construction project. Two water reservoirs will be constructed and the funds are also ready,” the businessman from Kyaukphyu told The NP News.

In addition, the government will also provide six billion kyats for land compensation to the relevant land losers.

Maday Island where a Chinese oil port is located, and large oil tankers with a capacity of 300,000 tonnes of oil can dock and depart.

In addition, there are statements from the community about the project that the construction of the Kyaukphyu Deep Sea Port project, which will be able to handle seven million containers of cargo, is scheduled to start by the end of 2024.

At present, Minister U Aung Naing Oo has expressed that the residents of Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State are willing to start the deep-sea port project as soon as possible.
