The consequences of clashes brought by the Rakhine insurgents AA converted the Thandwe City to worse causing struggles for locals, according to a resident inquired by The NP News.

“Everyone was comforted in Thandwe before since there was peace and good businesses. But after three days of occurring clashes in the city, situations were turned upside-down. Some shop-owners cannot sell their commodity from their villages since the village areas were restricted in the crossfire. What is more, the fishermen cannot go to Ngapali for fishing. All channels were shut down causing local commodity prices to skyrocket,” the resident from Thandwe said.

What is more, the progress of the businesses and trading were also drafted down in Thandwe and the commodity prices have soared. In addition, the electricity was insufficient since the substation that distributes the power from the Thahtay Chaung Hydropower project was blasted in the clashes recently.

“Comparing the two situations before and after the armed clashes, the voice of locals got louder due to the shortage of electricity for a month. The clashes continued. The substation that distributes the power from the Thahtay Chaung Hydropower project was blasted in the clashes and no one can repair it until now. Since that day, the electricity has been totally cut off the whole town,” he added.

Reports also state that approximately 60 percent of the city residents have fled the town for the time being.

The recently occurred clashes between Tatmadaw and AA insurgents and the consequences of clashes initiated by the AA turned the lives of the Rakhine people in Thandwe into chaos despite being a beautiful place near Ngapali Beach.
