Hsu/ Munich (NP News) - July 6
The leader of Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO) Colonel Khun Okkar said if there is no election in Myanmar and things continue as they are, there will be no improvement in any matter.
In anticipation of the 2025 Election, The NP News reached out to Colonel Khun Okkar, who provided the statement mentioned above.
“Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC), recently announced that preparations are underway for the general election scheduled to take place in 2025.
Khun Okkar said “While elections are the only legitimate path to a peaceful transition, if this extension of terms continues every six months and if the term is not extended further, abolishing the Constitution and seizing absolute power will not be good for the country in any way. He emphasized that elections offer the people a chance to rebuild the economy, healthcare system, and other vital aspects, going beyond merely replacing the current SAC’s leadership.”
He further asserted that conducting elections within the country could serve as an egress for the ongoing conflicts, emphasizing that elections are not only an opportunity for the SAC but also for the entire nation.
The leader of the PNLO stated that if elections are held in the country, a new government, including parliament, will emerge, and the governing power will be decentralized.
"If elections are held, power will be slightly more decentralized. Currently, with power centralized in one place, it is difficult to manage, making it impossible to implement any reforms. If elections are held, new government will emerge, and new parliament will be established. The role of political parties will become important. With that, the balance of power will be maintained, and it will pave the way to overcome all sorts of challenges in education, economy, healthcare, and finance. Without elections, there is no reason to expect any improvement," he said.
It is reported that the SAC government is making preparations, including voter registration and other processes, to hold the general election.
According to the new Political Parties Registration Law of the Union Election Commission, there are currently around 70 political parties that have registered, and more than 45 parties have been granted registration approval under the new Political Parties Registration Law.
