The Chairman of the Arakan Front Party (AFP), Dr. Aye Maung expects that the multiparty general election will be convened in early period of 2025.
According to the current conditions, we expect the election to be convened six months earlier than the initial estimation, he said.
“The SAC pledged to convene the general election in 2025, which would be between January and December. We normally predict the election date in November as usual. However, it can also be in the early period of the year after the National Defence and Security Council (NDSC) meeting is finished since at that time, the national census will also be accomplished. So, I guess the election will be six months earlier,” Dr. Aye Maung said.
He also considered that expectations can be hoped to get international cooperation if the election government is formed as soon as possible so as to overcome the current crisis at the soonest.
“At present, only Tatmadaw is taking all responsibilities of the State as per the State of Emergency according to the Constitution in every sector. It is difficult to get the international cooperation in this situation,” he said.
In the middle of August, the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and a group of political parties are scheduled to meet to discuss the proposed 23-point amendment opinions by the NSPNC.
What is more, a tripartite meeting between the NSPNC, seven NCA-signatory EAOs, and the group of political parties is projected to meet to discuss the election issue.
