Better security measures needed for enumerators in taking census

The State Administration Council (SAC) has started enumeration of the nationwide census since 1 October 2024. Although the conflict has not ended yet, this is a step toward election with reliable voting lists.
Concerns were raised over security assurance of the enumerators since the process of taking nationwide census is primarily carried out by the schoolteachers.
With regard to the census, Chairman of the Arakan Front Party (AFP) Dr Aye Maung remarked: “Internal peace and stabilities are required while taking the national census. However, the current affairs and situations are not stable. It would be better if the relevant government provides security measures for them. And I also want to urge the people to be collaborating and involved in taking the census.”
The 2024 Census is expected to be the fundamental step for convening the fresh election in 2025 and for the nation-building in the near future.
Dr. Aye Maung continued, “Regarding the nationwide census, the SAC is conducting as per the planned schedules. Enumerating the national census is fundamental for the elections since the SAC focuses on attaining the accurate voting lists.”
He continued that the data received by the census will play fundamental for shaping the future of the state, not just the process of listing names.
The previous Nationwide Census was taken in 2014.
