Yay Kyaw festival reopens after four years, set to run for five days

The Yay Kyaw festival in Yangon, which has been closed for about four years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, officially reopened on November 22, 2024, according to local festival organizing committees.
A member of the festival organizing committee stated, “All the shop spaces have been allocated since November 21. The opening ceremony of the festival takes place on November 22.
It is reported by the Yay Kyaw Festival organizing and shop space allocation committee, as well as locals that the famous Yay Kyaw festival in the Pazundaung Township of Yangon Region is set to take place for five days, from November 22 to November 26, 2024.
A representative from the shop space allocation committee in Ward 9, Pazundaung Township, said, “The Yay Kyaw festival will be held for five days, from November 22 to November 26. This year, it is being held in conjunction with National Day. In previous years, it was always held during the Thadingyut festival period. It has been over four years since it was last held, from 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, until 2023. This year, we are finally able to hold it again.”
The Yay Kyaw festival is a very crowded market, and currently, shop spaces for the event are being allocated according to a numbering system with advance reservations. It is also reported that during the festival, Yay Kyaw Road will be temporarily closed. –
