Myanmar-China Song Competition final day, awarding ceremony held at Yangon’s Time City

Yangon - The grand final concert and awarding ceremony of the Myanmar-China Song Competition (M. C. Song) took place at the Jewellery Mall of the Time City in Yangon on 24 November.

The event was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, Center for Language Education and Cooperation, and the Bowen School, Yangon.

Counselor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China Li Qian Guo, Rector of the Yangon University of Foreign Languages (YUFL) U Kyi Shwin and Division Head of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism Yangon U Nanda Aung, directors and heads of various China-Myanmar organizations, award winners and their families, and the invitees attended the event.

The Counselor Li Qian Guo from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China delivered an opening remark during the event. “Even more than a thousand years ago, the great Chinese poet composed a poem called Pyu Melody. The poem features the Pyu Prince Sunanda led a delegation of music artists to exchange cultures in Chang’an, the capital of Tang Dynasty in China,” said the Counselor Li Qian in his opening remark.

The Rector of the YUFL U Kyi Shwin also addressed a remark during the event. He said, “We hold this event with the purpose to uplift the culture and I believe to build a bridge to exchange cultures between China and Myanmar. Our two countries have a long-lasting and intertwined history, with deep cultural connections. Language also plays a crucial role in enhancing mutual understanding and fostering closer ties between the two peoples. It serves as an important tool in building rapport and strengthening relations.”

Young students and children from approximately 20 Chinese schools sang and danced at the event with Myanmar and Chinese songs. Award winning students received the prizes, certificates and awards.

The founder and boss of the Bowen School, Yangon Mr Song Le said, “This is the first time event of Myanmar-China Song Competition in Yangon. Students from more than 20 schools participated in this grand final concert from Yangon, Mandalay, Taunggyi and Lashio. There will be celebrations and events for the Chinese New Year in the upcoming year to uplift the bilateral relations. I wish we can build more friendship between Myanmar and China from this event.”

One of the students who won the third prize for middle school age said, “I’m from the MIEC (Myanmar International Education Center). My name is Wai Yan and I’m sixteen. I’ve been learning Chinese since my kindergarten age. The song I contested was about missing someone I love and it’s a blue song.”
