Yangon - The Young Men's Buddhist Association (YMBA) celebrated 104th National Day Commemoration on November 25 at the Tatmadaw Hall near the south entrance of Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon.
The attendees at the event were the Chairman of the State Saṅgha Mahā Nāyaka Committee, along with other senior monks; Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn; Chief Minister of Yangon Region U Soe Thein; officials from the YMBA; individuals who received awards; and invited guests.
The ceremony began with the recitation of "Namo Tassa" three times by venerable monks and the attendees. This was followed by a National Commemoration speech delivered by the Chairman of the State Saṅgha Mahā Nāyaka Committee, Thanlyin Mingyaung Sayadaw Candimābhivaṃsa.
The National Day message, sent by the Chairman of the State Administration Council, was read out by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein on behalf of Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
Subsequently, 27 venerable monks received honorary titles and donations from the Union Minister of Information, Yangon Region Chief Minister, other Yangon regional ministers, and YMBA members.
Honorary titles were also awarded to notable individuals, including film director Zinyaw Maung Maung, actor Yan Aung, actor Khant Si Thu, and actor-volunteer Htoo Khant Kyaw. “Just as the YMBA association conducts various auspicious activities, it has decided to honor individuals who have contributed to the benefits and interests of the country and those who have excelled in their respective fields by awarding them prestigious awards. Many renowned artists have also joined hands with the YMBA in these efforts. These individuals have already been acknowledged by relevant authorities in the past year, and now, through a collaboration with the Ministry of Information, YMBA is honoring those who truly love and support the association. This year, in cooperation with the Ministry of Information, YMBA has decided to award degrees to distinguished artists in a unique and special way,” said the patron of the YMBA to the Statesman Journal.
The YMBA was established on May 10, 1906, and can be regarded as a historically significant organization. The purpose of the YMBA is to promote “race, language, religion, and education.” Therefore, the awards and honors currently being presented also recognize those who are diligently working to advance the cause of “race, language, religion, and education.” –
