The AA keeps trying to continue seizing more territories in Rakhine State. Because of the AA’s aggressive military assaults, the local population is encountering hardship with shortages of medicine and goods, causing prices to skyrocket.
“The main thing is the shortage of medicine. The consumer goods are imported mainly from Mizoram, India. The price of foods and consumer products are skyrocketed. And the recent additional struggle is the shortage of medicine. As an example, patients with tuberculosis and HIV, which require constant medication, are running out of medication to take for daily doses. Therefore, mortality occurred in the area and the shortage continues,” a resident from the territory controlled by AA in Rakhine elaborated.
Deaths reportedly occurred due to lack of timely medical treatment.
“One of my friends died due to lack of oxygen. His disease is not much severe. He said that he had struggle to breath. The patient was died in short time due to the lack of medicine and insufficient oxygen,” the resident said.
In addition, the number of beggars increased due to the extreme hardship of living during displacement from the attacks and armed conflicts in Rakhine State.
“Some have to bag. There are also displaced people in Rakhine State. It is too many. Some people are bagging due to the hardship that has risen. The number of baggers has increased. If they not bagged, they are not enough for living. They didn’t even expect that,” he added.
