Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC), stated that a free and fair general election will definitely be held.
This was stated in the message sent on the occasion of the 73rd Kayah State Day, which fell on January 15, 2025.
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing stated, "As a state government, we must unwaveringly continue on the path of genuine and disciplined multi-party democracy, which reflects the will of the people. To achieve this, we are continuing the necessary preparations to hold a free and fair multi-party democratic general election. I emphasize with seriousness that we will definitely ensure the conduct of a free and fair general election that can genuinely express the true will of the voters."
He stated that the election would take place in 2025, and the winning party would assume state power. However, the exact date of the election has not yet been specified.
Speculation within the diplomatic community suggests that the State Administration Council (SAC) may lift the state of emergency in May, potentially leading to elections held between September, October and November, with a possible transfer of power in 2026.
Currently, fierce clashes are occurring in various regions and states of Myanmar involving anti-military armed groups, leading to the displacement of over 3 million people.
