NP News – April 3
The Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services announced on April 2 a temporary ceasefire from April 2 to 22.
The statement stated that from December 21, 2018, to December 31, 2023, the Tatmadaw issued 22 ceasefire declarations aimed at restoring lasting peace across the country and advancing the peace process. On September 26, 2024, the State Administration Council (SAC) proposed a solution to the political issue through peaceful political negotiations.
Reports indicate that the powerful earthquake on March 28, along with subsequent aftershocks, has caused significant damage to roads, bridges, and buildings in the affected areas, leading to casualties and injuries among the public. In response to these damages and losses, the State is actively engaged in rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.
In a show of empathy and understanding for the people across the country affected by the earthquake, and with the aim of conducting effective and efficient rescue and recovery operations while restoring stability and peace, the Tatmadaw has declared a temporary ceasefire from April 2 to 22, 2025.
The statement emphasized that during the temporary ceasefire period, ethnic armed organizations and other armed groups are urged not to obstruct or attack communication routes used by the general public, cause harm or destruction to civilian lives and property, target security personnel and their camps, disrupt military headquarters, recruit or mobilize forces that could threaten peace, or engage in territorial expansion. The statement also warned that if such actions occur, the Tatmadaw will take appropriate measures to protect the public and respond accordingly.
