One-minute silence for national mourning in Myanmar

A minute of silence, bowing, and sirens were observed across Myanmar on April 1 as part of the National Day of Mourning.
Myanmar’s State Administration Council (SAC) directed to fly the national flag at half-mast from March 31 to April 6 in the commemoration of the National level mourning dedicating to the lives lost in the recent powerful earthquake.
The National Day of Mourning, a nationwide observance, took place at 12:51:02 p.m. of local time on April 1. During this time, a minute of silence was held to pay respect to the deceased. Additionally, horns were sounded as a sign of mourning, prayers were offered, and blessings were recited at pagodas, temples, and places of worship in accordance with respective religious traditions, the SAC's press release announced.
Key activities included: (a) Lowering the national flag to half-mast at flagpoles (or other appropriate places), with a minute of silence observed in tribute; (b) People who were moving at the time stopped to observe a one-minute silence; (c) Sirens were sounded as a sign of mourning; (d) Media outlets paused scheduled programming and displayed mourning logos; (e) In accordance with religious customs, offerings were made, prayers and blessings were recited, and charitable acts were carried out.
These activities also took place across nationwide. As of 2nd April 2025, the earthquake has resulted in 2,886 dead, more than 4,639 injured and over 373 missing.
