Death toll rises to 3,600 in Mandalay Earthquake as of April 7

The powerful earthquake that struck Mandalay on March 28 has claimed the lives of 3,600 people, injured 5,017, and left 160 missing, as of April 7, according to Maj Gen Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson for the State Administration Council’s information team.

In addition, as of April 7, 94 aircraft, 6 vehicles, and 5 ships from 20 countries have arrived to assist, while 1,738 rescue workers have been deployed to carry out rescue operations. Over 1,000 relief supplies and more than 844 tons of rescue equipment have been delivered.

During the rescue efforts, the Myanmar Fire Department, social assistance organizations, and international rescue teams have successfully rescued 338 men and 315 women. The remains of 340 men and 360 women have been retrieved.

Maj Gen Zaw Min Tun further stated that Myanmar has received aid from 20 countries, including Russia, China, India, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, the UAE, Laos, Belarus, Indonesia, Bhutan, the Philippines, Japan, Nepal, Pakistan, Turkey, the United States, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong. These nations have sent relief teams and provided essential supplies.
