Armed groups continue attacks despite claiming temporary ceasefire

Despite the temporary ceasefire, armed groups are continuing to engage in hostilities, said Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun, spokesman for the State Administration Council (SAC), in a statement yesterday (April 7).

The Tatmadaw has issued a statement calling for a ceasefire from April 2 to 22 due to the earthquake emergency.

“After the statement was issued, on April 6, the KIA fired 82mm mortars at the military headquarters in Bhamo from a distance at around 10:30 pm. The TNLA also clashed with the Tatmadaw in Taung Hkam region at around 12:30 pm yesterday. The KNDF and KNPP fired at a group providing security near the Bawlakhe Forest Office in Bawlakhe. Then, yesterday, they fired at a military vessel providing security in Gwa from a distance. They fired at security posts in Kyaukpyu from a distance,” said Maj Gen Zaw Min Tun.

Similarly, the KIA and PDF joint forces began attacking military security posts in Indaw Township, Sagaing Region on April 4, and fighting is reportedly intense.
