Recent deadly quake in Myanmar to be named 'Mandalay Earthquake'

The earthquake that struck on March 28 with a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale will be designated and used as the Mandalay Earthquake, the State Administration Council’s Spokesperson Maj Gen Zaw Min Tun announced on April 7.

As of April 7, the earthquake has claimed 3,600 lives, injured 5,017 people, and left 160 missing.

"We would like to inform you that for the sake of clarity and consistency in reporting and referring to the 7.7 magnitude earthquake, we will use the name Mandalay Earthquake," said Maj Gen Zaw Min Tun.

General Zaw Min Tun also said he would like to request the media to change the name and description of the earthquake to "Mandalay Earthquake".
