Phyo/Pearl (NP News) - July 15
According to information released by the MNDAA (Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army), a new township has been formed by merging Chinshwehaw Township and Kunlong Township which they control.
On July 9, a ceremony was held at the office of the Kunlong Township Administrative Committee to merge Chinshwehaw Township and Kunlong Township to form the new Kunlong Township.
The merger of the two townships into one comes at a time when there are reports that the MNDAA is about to withdraw from the Hseinwi Township they control to Chinshwehaw.
The statement added that Mr. Peng De Li, Vice Chairman of the Special Region (1) Administrative Committee, said that the merger was to enhance its political position, indicating that the MNDAA is likely to focus more on politics than on the military.
In addition, he added that the new township should focus on development, maintain stability, and implement projects.
Vice Chairman Mr. Peng De Li concluded his speech by pointing out that the unification of Chinshwehaw Township and Kunlong Township is a duty given by history and an opportunity of the times.
The Kokang have said they will build the newly formed Kunlong Township into a model area with economic development, social harmony, and public satisfaction, and will work to bring political stability and economic development to the area they control. –
