Voter lists notice extended for an additional 7 days

Phyo/ Pearl (NP News) - Oct 12

The Union Election Commission (UEC) has announced that the voter registration will be extended for another 7 days.
The UEC has prepared the electoral roll based on the population register compiled by the Township General Administration Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs in accordance with the relevant Hluttaw Election Rule 5, as per the Annex (1) table of the electoral roll form (1) and the population register compiled by the Township Head Office of the Ministry of Immigration and Population in accordance with the Annex (2) table of the household population register form (66/6).
It was reported that voters can only help obtain a complete and accurate list by coming to inspect the voter list, which was first announced from September 30 to October 13.
“I went to check the voter lists, and my name was not on them. Some other people’s names were missing as well. We’ve been living in the village for a long time, so it’s quite obvious. When we informed the official that we couldn’t find our name in the lists, they told us to bring the household records and check with the relevant staff when they come. According to the procedure, we need to go to the authorities together with the household records, and submit them for voter list updates. We are going to do it. As citizens, we feel it is our responsibility. Some people are afraid. And they feel discouraged at the prospect of paying for motorcycle fares or taxi fees, and simply don’t want to do it. For us, the places we need to go are over three miles, nearly four miles away. Some people were afraid to vote from the very beginning. There are even people who don’t want to look at the voter lists at all. This informed process should be supervised by village elders, household heads, and administrative officers. But those of us who understand its importance are going to update the list to be included,” a resident of Kawthaung told The Statesman journal.
The UEC has also announced that the voter list will be posted for an additional seven days from October 14 to 20 to ensure its completeness and to give voters more time to submit necessary requests, objections, and amendments.
Therefore, if your name is not on the voter list, you can request to be added to it using Form (3), if someone who should not be on the voter list is included, you can object using Form (4), and if the information on the voter list is incorrect, you can submit an amendment using Form (4-C) until October 20.
In addition, the UEC is working with relevant ministries, organizations, and political parties to ensure the accuracy of the voter lists. The UEC said on October 8 that the second voter list, which has been prepared in accordance with the law, will be posted and announced around the second week of November for voters to review.
