According to a statement from the State Security and Peace Commission, online scams will be eradicated from Shwe Kokko, Kyauk Khet and other areas, Kayin State in the Myanmar-Thailand border.
In the fight against online fraud, the government has instructed to prevent online fraud, online gambling, and other crimes in the Shwe Kokko area of Kayin State.
Therefore, starting from the morning of November 18, joint inspection teams comprising security personnel, administrative authorities, and other relevant groups, began conducting ground-level checks to determine whether regulations were being followed and whether any illegal activities were taking place. Effective action will be taken based on the findings of these inspections.
The government has identified and arrested those who illegally entered Myanmar through neighboring countries. However, based on humanitarian considerations and friendship between countries, they are being transferred to their respective countries after being examined in line with the law. From October 5, 2023 to November 17, 2025, a total of 68,009 foreigners from 52 countries who were illegally residing in Myanmar were transferred to their respective countries.
During the investigation into the Shwe Kokko area, three illegal structures built without permission were found. On the morning of November 18, a joint inspection team consisting of security forces and administrative organizations entered the Shwe Kokko area and conducted an investigation. A group was found to be attempting to flee to another country and they were arrested.
A total of 346 foreigners and a large number of business equipment used in committing online fraud were seized and investigations are ongoing.
Those who committed online fraud were said to have taken advantage of the instability in Myanmar, where there are many difficulties and limitations for the rule of law and administrative officials to fully exercise control, and committed criminal acts for their own gain.
They targeted the Myawaddy-Maehtawthalay KK Park area, Shwe Kokko area and Kyauk Khet area. These are areas where KNLA, KNU Kayin armed insurgents and PDF terrorists, NCA-signatory Kayin armed groups and Border Guard Forces operate.
According to the statement, these armed groups are being approached by individuals with their own agendas, who are offering various investment opportunities in infrastructure.
In addition, the statement added that sources from the neighboring country had provided water, electricity, communications, and other basic necessities for people to live in those areas.
Currently, the KK Park area has been cleared, and security forces will continue to provide full security in the Shwe Kokko, Kyauk Khet, and other areas, and if any online gambling fraud is discovered, effective action will be taken to eradicate it.
The Myanmar government is working with the international community to deal with online fraud decisively and effectively.
In addition, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing has also issued instructions to combat crimes committed against neighboring countries and the international community using Myanmar's territory as a national responsibility.
During recent visits to Kayin and Mon States, it was clearly stated in meetings with departmental organizations and the public that combating online fraud is a national responsibility and will continue to decisively take action.
The government will continue to comprehensively crack down on online fraud in Myanmar and will also effectively prevent and suppress it in cooperation with participating countries, regional countries, and regional organizations at the China-Myanmar-Thailand-Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Joint Meeting on Combating Online Fraud, held in Kunming, People's Republic of China on November 14, 2025.
Therefore, citizens are urged to treat online fraud as a matter of national importance and cooperate in combating it by reporting it to the relevant authorities if they receive information about it.
