India pledges $2.5 million to support Myanmar over five years

The Indian government has pledged up to U.S. $2.5 million in assistance to support urgent needs of the people of Myanmar over the next five years under the Quick Impact Projects (QIP) program, according to a press release from the Indian Embassy in Myanmar.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony for 10 fast-track projects to be implemented with the assistance of the Government of India was held in Naypyidaw on November 17.
The projects aim to improve agricultural productivity, preserve cultural heritage, enhance disaster resilience, access to renewable energy, develop infrastructure, and human resources for people in states and regions across Myanmar, the statement said.
The Government of India has provided up to U.S. $ 750,000 under the QIP program in the last two years for civil infrastructure projects in agriculture, rural development, renewable energy, e-learning and education, handlooms and disaster risk reduction in Yangon Region, Naypyidaw, Mandalay Region, Tanintharyi Region, Sagaing Region, Naga Self-Administered Zone and Magway Region. –
