According to inquiries from The Statesman, entrepreneurs and a major electricity company are negotiating to implement a solar project in the Sadukan Industrial Zone in Ward No. (4) of Shwe Pyithar Township, Yangon Region.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed last month between officials from the Sadukan Industrial Zone and the electricity company to implement the solar project.
“We are working on a solar project. We have signed an MOU with a power company of Dagon U Win Aung’s son for a solar project in the Sadukan Industrial Zone. They are making ground surveys. According to the MOU, one unit is estimated to cost between 500 and 600 kyats. Battery backup storage will be used. We are implementing the installation of solar panels on all factories and workshops. The survey stage is over. Before the MOU, we began with a proposal, including factory selection, power generation amount and the number of factories with 24-hour supply,” an entrepreneur told The Statesman.
Currently, field inspections are underway and details, including the prices to be charged per meter unit, are still being negotiated.
In addition, it is also under negotiations to complete this project implementation within a year.
“Right now, their engineering teams are inspecting how the solar panels should be installed and whether the structures are strong enough. Once they have confirmed the project's feasibility, they will continue to negotiate with the Myanma Electric Power Enterprise (MEPE). Though not finalized, an estimated price per meter unit is now available. Another issue is whether they will provide us with a 24-hour supply or not. To put it simply, since we require 24-hour power, we are negotiating to include battery backups. The unit price may get a little higher. Some people are saying that the government rate may become around 900 kyats [for industrial zones]. They held meetings and discussed this officially in industrial zones. We signed the MOU to implement this entire project within one year, including the final proposal, negotiations with the MEPE, confirmation of the price with us, and implementation schemes,” he continued. –
