A rubber entrepreneur told The Statesman that Chinese investors are interested in investing in a motorcycle tire manufacturing plant.
Currently, the Chinese side is conducting surveys on the rubber and tire markets to establish a joint venture between Myanmar and Chinese entrepreneurs to build a motorcycle tire factory, and is continuing to monitor political changes.
“They are planning to build a glove and motorcycle tire factory. It will be a foreign investment. The current situation is that they are doing a survey and waiting for political changes. The survey for the market has completed. I think it will be realized as they are trying,” he said.
It is also learned that if the project is confirmed, the factory will be built in a region or state where rubber raw materials are produced and exporting to foreign markets is convenient due to good transportation links.
“When considering export, we will have to think about Yangon Port, which is convenient for transport, and a location among states and regions that produces a lot of rubber. The current weakness is that the natural rubber used by the tire factory is actually only about 25 percent of all. The rest inputs are chemicals, materials, and black carbon, which we have to import. We don’t produce them in our own country. We need to try to produce them within our country. We are trying to produce them in various ways,” he said.
Similarly, other Chinese and Belarusian entrepreneurs have been offered to build factories to produce tires other than motorcycle tires.
“Actually, there is a high demand for tires locally, not only for motorcycles, but also for highway buses, trailers, and trucks. We need to produce them in large quantities here. We are trying to produce them cooperating with international investors and factories in China. We have also invited Belarus to come and invest. Tires mostly require rubber as a raw material. We are inviting investment in tire factories,” he said. –
