156 illegal foreign nationals were arrested for online fraud and gambling near Metta Lin Myaing Village in Myawaddy Township.
Myanmar is implementing measures to combat online fraud and online gambling. In the Shwe Kokko area and KK Park, where online fraud and gambling are most prevalent, security forces and administrative organizations have been working with local officials to dismantle illegal structures and clear illegal activities and prevent illegal foreign nationals from settling. As a result, illegal structures in the Myawaddy-Maehtawthalay (KKPark) area were demolished and foreign nationals who committed online gambling and fraud in the Shwe Kokko area were identified and detained.
As part of the ongoing efforts to combat illegal online fraud and online gambling, on the afternoon of February 26, 148 Chinese nationals, three Thai nationals, three Filipino nationals, one Cambodian national, and one Russian national, a total of 156 people were arrested and detained in a five-story RC building near Metta Lin Myaing Village in Myawaddy Township. 100 All-in-One computers, 200 mobile phones, and business equipment used in committing online fraud and gambling were identified and seized, and the investigation is ongoing.
The foreign nationals who were identified and detained are being held at the Myawaddy City Police Station, and departmental teams are currently collecting the necessary personal information and records.
Foreign nationals who have been arrested and involved in illegal online gambling and fraud will be repatriated to their respective countries as soon as possible, and the seized equipment used in online fraud will be prevented from being used again in accordance with procedures.
The government has taken combatting online gambling fraud as a national responsibility and is continuing to coordinate with local forces as well as neighboring governments to ensure that online scam is completely eradicated in Myanmar. –
