NP News - July 12
Many visitors have flocked to pagodas, including the world-famous Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, on the full-moon day of Waso on July 12, marking the beginning of Buddhist lent.

The day is also known as Dhamma Satkyar Day since the Lord Buddha delivered his first Dhamma speech to five monks (Pyinsawagi) admitting him as a nonpareil Buddha in the universe.

Today, thousands of pilgrims visited Shwedagon Pagoda where women, men, young men and girls were reciting Dhamma Satkyar sermon, 24 Pathana Pali and Mahar Payeik sermons in groups or individually.

Some make good merits and offer foods, flowers, and fruits at the Shwedagon pagoda.

Monasteries were also celebrated with people offering Waso robes.
