The State Administration Council released a press statement on Hpakant airstrike on 23rd October evening on the eve celebration of 62nd KIA anniversary.

The air attack was claimed a counter strike by the Myanmar military on the KIA for its 11 attacks on military bases and police outposts; and its frequent attacks against the civilian passenger cruises that are running between Banmauk, Kathar, Shwegu and Bamao on 21st, 22nd and 23rd October.

The statement said that the military conducted the operation on KIA’s Brigade 9 as per the ROE and the Law of Armed Conflict; only KIA personnel and PDF members died in the incident.

“The target site is the armed base of the KIA Brigade 9 that is deployed by the KIO/KIA to conduct extortions from jade businesses. The targeted location can be seen or verified in the Google map whether the area is the military base or the civilian site,” the SAC statement clearly mentioned.

The area on which the airstrike was launched is the command headquarters of the KIA brigade 9, a strictly prohibited area from entering of civilians. Only those who run illegal businesses in jade excavations and the KIA armed troops can access the area, according to the statement.
