Authorities seize illegal teak loggers in Naypyidaw and others

The Forest Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation seized nearly 70 #illegal_loggers who are smuggling teak along with their vehicles and pieces of machinery in Naypyidaw and across the country.

More than 150 tons of teak and 18 illegal loggers were captured by the authorities across the country between November 14 to 20.

A total of 12 pieces of machinery were also seized along with the illegal loggers. Most of them were seized within Khapaung Reserved Forest located in Oktwin Township, Taungoo District, Bago Region.

Similarly, from November 21 to 27, another 24 illegal loggers who are logging down more than 120 tons of teak were captured along with their vehicles and machinery in different states and regions including Naypyidaw.

The Forest Department said teaks were mostly captured in two miles east of Thit Saint Phin Village, Nyaung Kaing Beet Zone, Tatkon Township, Ottara District in Naypyidaw.

Moreover, another 84 tons of illegal teak was logged down and 24 illegal loggers were seized throughout the country from November 28 to December 4. the Department of Forestry stated. Most were seized in Khapaung Reserved Forest in Bago Region.

Therefore, a total of 66 illegal loggers were captured together with their vehicles and related pieces of machinery in both Naypyidaw and other states/regions.
